  • 2006 FZ1 Specification Comparison Tables

For those of you that are interested, I set up two tables that compare the specs of the 2005 FZ1 and the 06 R1 to the 06 FZ1.

    Enjoy!

mmmmm, thank you. Explains so much.

I'm pleased to see the charging system output - I was concerned my Gerbing might cause difficulty.

      No problem...

Yeah I noticed that too. I wonder why such a big jump. My 01 charges just fine w/ gerbings, heated grips, radar, xm, autocom etc. Maybe the FI??

Not much on this weekend, huh?

Interesting stuff. Thanks for going to the effort.

I wonder if the charging system for the 06 will fit on the first gen bikes?

I've had a chance to look closer. The next thing I notice is the 06 looks more like the R1 than it looks like the prev ver FZ1. (Like WarDog says - rev it.)

Yuk, 2 Cat Converters vs 1 on R1! My 06 pipe is Bronze (at under 500 miles) from Head to collectors - this bike is *way* corked at the muffler. I predict we are gonna see huge rwhp gains (possibly (likely?) double digit percentage gains!!) from the baseline with the BEST full system and timing limiter removed. It's gonna spin up way faster too..

It does have the O2 Sensor Ivan expressed a concern about. I can imagine how much more enjoyable it will be to ride when the 1st gear limiter is fooled. I wonder which gear is the optimum performer? (I think 3rd! or 4th) There is a lot of power here waiting to be optimzed.

Otherwise same FI system as R1?

It's the standard all others will be measured against. Yeah Baby.

What are the fuel requirements? I didn't see any on the spec. sheets.

AFAIK 89 is good to go.

The newer R1's require 91. But the new FZ doesn't have the same
high compression motor so I'd imagine either 87 or 89 is what's recommended.

I can't believe there is only a seven hp gain and .1 lb ft gain, very disappointing given the new R1 derived engine. If the exhaust is in fact that restricted Bruce could be right about the potential gains.

My 'speculation' included in my first few ride reports.

Note it also includes a minimal side by side comparo against the first gen too.

(fwiw - I own 2 FI Suzuki's that have been tricked. The FI performance on this bike is between those and fairly close to the better of the 2. I purchased 'custom' maps for both. IMO - a critical enhancement once the engine related is done being modded - unless one can afford dropping $200 a pop for custom maps. I saw nice gains in both Custom maps over maps that are made for similar combinations but different bikes.)

Ah, I see. Seems odd they would put a limiter on the FZ when there isn't one on the R1.

interestingly enough my manual states a minimum of 86 octane...I can't even get 86 octane.. I'll be using shell or mobile 87 to start and see what transpires.
